This Sunday I will share the basic content of the third, and final booklet in Bobby Bates’ study series “Back To The Bible.” The reason the series is called Back To The Bible is because it calls us to go back to the Bible as the sole source of our information about Christ, His church, and salvation. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says it this way: “16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
The purpose of the Back To The Bible mini-sermon series is meant to encourage us to use the series as a tool to study with other people. The sermons are merely an instrument to teach about the Back To The Bible flipbook Bible study series. While I would hope that some of the content in my recent sermons might impart some insight as we deal with the different topics covered in the flipbooks; my hope is to entice us to use the Back To The Bible study in an actual study setting.
In order for that to happen, we would need to personally commit to practicing these studies with someone who is already a Christian. After you’ve practiced a couple of times, the next step would be to ask someone to study with you who is not a Christian and then go through the study with them.
As we study with others, remember there is no way to be 100% prepared. This is important to know because someone is eventually going to ask a question for which you will not have an answer. That is why it is necessary to follow the study booklets. Chances are the questions asked will be answered at some point in the study. As the person leading the study, it is important to be the one leading the study and not be distracted by too many questions.
Don’t discount any question asked but write them down for possible discussion later. If, for some reason, a question is not eventually answered from going through the study booklets, and you’re not sure of the answer, admit that you don’t know. Then let them know that you will do your best to study and find out. If you need help with a question or to study with someone, please seek me or another experienced member out for assistance.
It is important to remember that your goal in leading the study is not to answer every question asked by someone. Your goal is to move through the study and expose someone to the truth of God’s Word so that they may discover the truth for themselves and come to faith (Romans 10:17). Only the truth can set a soul free from their sins. I offer the very words of Christ from John 8:31-32, as an encouragement: “31 If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
